(Nasdaq: ANDS) announced today that it has initiated dosing ANA773 in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) in Part B of a two-part protocol designed to test ANA773 in both healthy volunteers and HCV patients. ANA773 is the Company’s investigational oral TLR7 agonist prodrug. In Part B of the study, patients in the first cohort will receive 800 mg of ANA773 every other day for 28 days. (Nasdaq: ANDS) announced today that it has initiated dosing ANA598 in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) in a Phase Ib study. ANA598 is an investigational, oral, non-nucleoside polymerase inhibitor. The Phase Ib clinical trial is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study that will evaluate the tolerability, pharmacokinetics and viral kinetics of multiple, ascending doses of ANA598 over a period of three days. Anadys expects to enroll approximately 30 patients in the study of ANA598 at doses of 200 mg bid (twice-a-day), 400 mg bid and 800 mg bid.  Full Release

Trius Awarded $28 Million Contract to Develop Novel Antibiotics

San Diego, CA, October 22, 2008 – Trius Therapeutics, Inc. today announced the award of a $28 million contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a component of the National Institutes of Health, for the development of novel antibiotics directed against multiple Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. Under the five-year contract, Trius will develop novel drugs targeting bacterial DNA Gyrase and Topoisomerase IV, with the aim of optimizing these drugs for activity against relevant biodefense pathogens such as Yersinia pestis, Francisella tularensis, and Burkholderia pseudomallei. Trius will collaborate with investigators at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories to identify and optimize lead molecules and to test these compounds for activity against Gram-negative biodefense pathogens.
